Laurie KennedyYour vision, mission, purpose and goals are critical. Scripture tells us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:17 KJV). Hence, if you as an individual leader are void of a Vision, Mission or God directed purpose, scripture says you are headed into difficulty. Perish!

It is an awesome privilege to watch churches discover their vision, re-organize and monitor their budget and activities to accomplish their God directed Vision. Churches also work to delete or reorganize those programs and activities that do not lead to the ultimate vision. Churches also institute new programs and services that help their people move closer to the Vision.

This coming Friday is Good Friday. This the day we recognize that Christ gave his life on a cross, rising again according to prophecy in three days.

As we work through this Easter week it is time to re-focus everything we do to remember that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. The main thing? God loves you, Christ died for you and rose again on the third day so we might have life eternal.

The Annual Goals, the Ministry plan, the dreams, hopes, vision and the hours debating the culture of your church become less significant. The hours of committee meetings, the constitution review and the new policy development manual become less important. You need to keep the main thing, the main thing because the main thing is the result, catching fish. In our world, the main thing is letting your neighbours, friends at work and those you coffee with know that God loves them.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 NIV).

Leadership is ensuring that the babe in the Manger who became the Christ on the Cross is the main thing and is demonstrated in everything we do.
