This eagle story is a somewhat ‘tongue in cheek’ leadership lesson. It is simplistic, unique, but a powerful learning opportunity.
An eagle egg found its way into a prairie chicken nest. Growing up with a prairie chicken family. The eagle fit in well and learned to scratch, cackle and fly a few inches off the ground.
One day, he saw a beautiful bird soaring in the sky. This bird flew, dipped, and rose with power and beauty he had never seen before.
“That’s a beautiful bird” the eagle said to his adopted brother. “What is it?” “That’s an eagle, the chief of the birds, they can fly for hours” the brother clicked. “Don’t give it a thought. You could never be like him.”
The adopted eagle believed him, lived the rest of his life fitting in, following the crowd and died thinking he was a prairie chicken.
Like the eagle, the potential of the prayerful dedicated individual is beyond measure. Individuals can conquer handicaps and impossible circumstances. The motivation is beyond control, diagnosis or predication. Its cost is miniscule, its results incalculable. You are God’s creation capable of accomplishment beyond imagination.
What makes the difference? Why are some workers committed and dedicated while others are undermotivated, under worked and dissatisfied? Looking at our world and watching our news, it seems that followers don’t take responsibility. However, the effective and quality leaders considers individual and corporate values their role. As Christian leaders we need to excel, “whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV)
