Laurie KennedyYou are the guest speaker for a Christian Leaders Conference. Leaders from Church, Mission and Secular organizations will attend. You get three 45 minute opportunities to influence and shape the thinking of these leaders. What will your topics be?

Will you talk about the changing style of music, environmental issues, economic crisis, or leadership in the political arena? Your topics need to initiate the prayerful change to dramatically help our churches that are not healthy?

Here’s the outline I’m using.

Session #1. Caring like a shepherd.  “To the elders among you, … Be shepherds of God’s flock”. (1 Peter 5:1-2 NIV) As Leaders, we are not to follow the secular leadership style of the month club.  We are to be shepherds, leading, caring and praying for everyone we are responsible for.

Session #2. Find your sheep like a shepherd.  Ezekiel writes, “I myself will search for my sheep and look after them” (Ezekiel 34:11 NIV). Shepherds tell me that sheep will wander. We can agree that people, (like sheep) will wander.  We need to find and care for our current sheep and we need to look for others who want to be involved. We need to look outside the walls of our buildings to the community we live and work in.

Session #3 Lead like a shepherd. “So I exhort the elders among you, “shepherd the flock of God that is among you…” (1 Peter 5:1-2)

Leaders, the shepherd (Leader) is responsible for the health of the sheep. It is your role to lead a process to discover God’s vision for your church. You will encourage your people to pray the vision through and then set measurable goals to achieve God’s plan. Just like the Shepherd, you are responsible for the health of your people.

Leadership is, demonstrating the qualities of a Servant Leader by leading, protecting, providing, caring, feeding and nurturing.
