My best career choices were working for Boards. I’ve always had more support, freedom and security when working for a Board. Those of you who work for a Board are privileged and blessed.
“Board members arrive at the table with dreams. They have vision and values … (they) are as conscientious and as giving a group as one could ever hope to find. Members of volunteer boards and underpaid public boards interrupt their personal and occupational lives to support something in which they believe”. (John Carver, Boards that make a difference)
God set a scriptural principle for us.
“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation is intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. (John 15:5-6 MSG)
Christ set the example of accountability. He referred to the Father in everything. His instruction, written by Paul.
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1 NIV)
Think about it. Your Board members have committed their time, energy, finances and prayer time to you and your Ministry.  I’ve had the very personal experiences of knowing that my Board members and prayer team were praying for me. If you want to be fruitful and results oriented in your ministry, you need to be under the authority of your Board.
Historian Michael Armstrong tells us.
“The ancient Romans had a tradition: Whenever one of their engineers constructed an arch, as the capstone was hoisted into place, the engineer assumed accountability for his work in the most profound way possible: He stood under the arch.”
Accountability to our Heavenly Father, not only personally but through a praying Board separates the effective from the average. Your board is your springboard, security and protector in times of crisis. They keep you engaged, focused on the target and you will see better results.
Leadership is … working in sync with your Board.
