Laurie Kennedy“The church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became man for no other purpose.” (C. S. Lewis Devotional Classics)

“Tragically, the church, for the most part, is no longer a power to be reckoned with. It has largely lost the respect of the masses; it is often the object of ridicule. Tragically, it has become the last place our nation would turn for help.” (Bill Bright, The Coming Revival)

“Christian executives generally were more authoritative than their pagan counterparts (and) tend not to seek input from their subordinates as readily as do unbelieving administrators.” (James MacDonald Leadership Journal)

“Many churches fail to grow because leadership is hoarded by the chosen few”. (David Lundy Servant Leadership for Slow Learners)

As Christian Leaders we need to live the Biblical model of Servant Leadership. The secular lifestyle, Autocratic management models and the newest fad from the leadership style of the month club is not for the Christian Servant Leader. If we take C. S. Lewis and David Lundy seriously, the responsibility for winning our neighbors to Christ and church growth rests squarely with the Christian Leader. Our daily papers confirm secular leadership styles are not working. They are not working to produce effective character building servant oriented leadership at work and they are certainly not working at church. Christian leaders must be different. We need to commit ourselves daily to a life of service based on prayer. We need to demonstrate God’s love through a commitment to our relationship with Christ and to loving our neighbor.

As you tackle your To Do List, your overwhelming email and texts, keep these four authors in mind. We all need to learn that the goal is not the programs and activities.

Leadership is … glorifying God and demonstrating his love in all we do.

Yours in Service,
