Laurie KennedyLeadership in Ministry belongs to those who accept the challenge of growing their ministry toward improved spiritual and organizational health. Last year’s achievements are routine and gone. Those who live in the past, re-living former accomplishments and concentrating energy on former days are losing out. Historical trends are great, but unreliable. The future is a moving target.

The challenge is the world continues to change. Your people are changing hence your future target is changing. The moving target is more like a leapfrog than a steady process. As you achieve and break new ground, don’t look back. When you think you are ahead, don’t sit and relax, the world is still moving and changing.

The effective leader prayerfully looks ahead, loving the future, yet is keenly aware of the day to day picture. The winner watches and compares today to last year, and then, forecasts to next year. If the forecast equals or exceeds the goal, great. However, when the forecast is behind the goal, go back to the drawing board to redesign a better plan to achieve. The tail end of a trend obviously doesn’t accomplish as much as the leading edge. The effective will spot a trend early, research their ability to jump in and then implement. This isn’t a onetime effort. Hundreds of ideas fail for every real winner. The secret is to continually try and try again.

Think about it. There won’t be any time tomorrow to think about the future. When tomorrow comes, part of your future will be gone.

Leadership is prayerfully creating your future today and every day.
