Laurie KennedyLet’s assume you are responsible to set the ethical standard and character development where you work. Let’s also assume you are responsible to lead a world-wide movement to improve the ethical decisions of business and church leaders world-wide. In your current role you may be a leader in your company. You may be a Board Member at church or even the Pastor. Or, you volunteer at your church or community service organization. Let’s give you a title. Let’s call you God’s chosen servant called to make a difference.

You are called by God just like Moses, Caleb, Joshua and many other Biblical leaders to lead and influence people world-wide. You have a grass roots, one on one role to influence each and every person you communicate with. “The average American will meet ten thousand people in their lifetime. That’s a lot of folks. But, if every one of you changed the lives of just ten people, and each of those folks changed the lives of another ten people-just ten-then in five generations-125 years…we will have changed the lives of 800 million people”. (William H. McRaven, Make Your Bed)

As the leader, start today and every day to demonstrate ethical behavior in everything you do. Show your team, friends, neighbors and associates that you are striving for an ethical standard. Praise your people. Be consistent and fair in all relationships. Live above the guidelines to ensure you hold up your corner. Be accountable to your associates, your customers and those in authority. Remember that being responsible is not only cool but appreciated. Show a high level of accountability, keep your word and take responsibility for your decisions.

“When a butterfly flutters its wings in one part of the world, it can eventually cause a hurricane in another.” (Author unknown)

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1 NIV)

Leadership is … ensuring Character is the essence of your drive to excel.
