Your January Board Agenda needs an annual plan of which you as a Board can initiate, maintain or cancel as you work through your year.
As Board Chair you share responsibility with the whole team to maintain and encourage positive interpersonal relationships at the Board table and otherwise. As your friendship and trust grows, your effectiveness will reach new heights of accomplishment. I often remind Board Chairs, ‘As the Board is, so the people are’.
At the conclusion of your Board meeting prior to closing prayer, ask a challenging question to each Board member. Give them something to think and pray about prior to the next meeting. Sports fans know the rules, process and the score at any time during a game. They also know that the Coach will adjust the play, provide encouragement and instruction as necessary during the game.
The challenge is many church or service organization rarely keep score. Please ask your Board members to pray and think through this question. How can the Board keep score and monitor the health of your Pastor and your church or mission at each Board meeting during this new calendar year?
Board Chairs often ask me to assist their un-healthy church to grow and become healthy. We can do that. Yet, the reality is the health of the Board will be reflected in the people. Hence, my role is to assist the Board to be spiritually and organizationally healthy. As the Board becomes healthy their influence in the church will be positive.
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought”. (1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV)
Leadership is … focusing your life and work on your God directed Vision.
