Vision is often defined as; your own personal North Star, your guiding light, the ultimate goal, a life-long dream and a hope and a future direction, something you want to achieve. Think of the Israelites. Moses was given a vision of the Promised Land. Joshua and Caleb were able to visit the Promised Land in their young adult years. Today, we’d call that a vision.
During his lengthy leadership career, Moses was led by a pillar of fire at night and a cloud by day. “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.” (Exodus 13:21 NIV) Think about the constant encouragement of the cloud or pillar of fire.
Think about Caleb. His memory of God’s care and influence while spying out the Promised Land must have been led by a strong vision. A prayerful dream to go in a conquer God’s Promised Land culminated by his statement to Joshua, “give me this mountain” (Joshua 14:12 KJV).
Christ had a vision, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:18-19 NIV)
“Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV). We each need to discover our vision, that of our team and our organization. If not, Proverbs called it ‘perish’. Do we have a vision or are we on a collision course with ‘perish’?
