Laurie KennedyPastors and Board Chairs, the health of your church is dependent on the health of your Leadership Board. Your Board members need to be Vision focused, effective and competent. Your members, both individually and collectively, must demonstrate spiritual leadership to the congregation.

As your Board members grow in Spiritual development encourage each to look to these twelve qualities.

Each individual Board member needs to grow and develop along these points:

  • Love your Pastor, congregation and the Vision, Mission and Values of your church.
  • Love your church so much they represent its values, not their own.
  • Love to learn, to study, pray, share personally and be vulnerable as a team
  • Love Jesus and work to demonstrate his love all week.
  • Love your Pastor, his family, his teaching, his style of presentation
  • Love men and women who are competent yet humble serving as God leads
  • Love the core values of your church
  • Love and respect other Board members both multi-cultural and multi-generational
  • Love to pray, share and work collectively towards the church Vision.
  • Love to communicate with other Board members, the church and the community
  • Love to ask good questions, seek positive solutions and are optimistic.
  • Love to be results focused in service with strong involvement in church programs.

Paul provided significant direction to Pastors and leaders.  Note his comments that we all work together without division.

“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” (1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV)

Leadership is … developing a great board enabling the entire organization to minister effectively.
