Laurie KennedyYou are a leader.  We can agree on that.  The hard question is, are you a value based leader whose character traits stimulate positive results in others? The Ethical principles or the code of ethics hanging on the wall of your favorite businesses are not a formula. They do not guarantee success. They are only a framework, a guideline.

The Biblical standard of Ethics is doing what is right. Good character and ethical behavior is a prerequisite to excellence. The ethical standards in your church, mission or business are typically defined by the behavior of your leaders.

“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” (Ezekiel 22:30 NIV)

Leaders who have a very positive ethical character are easy to identify, great to work for and provide very positive mentoring.  They:

  • Work positively under authority, giving credit to others
  • Are supportive of other peoples’ decisions
  • Speak positively and live within the Vision, Mission and Values of the organization they work for
  • Will suffer and do without for the good of others
  • Are emotionally balanced during both positive and stressful times
  • Focus on the task at hand, yet are not driven
  • Demonstrate they love their work and the people they work with
  • Ensure integrity in all they do
  • Serve others in their words and deeds

Leaders set the ethical standards by the conditions of their heart.

Leadership is praying, meditating and ensuring your words and actions are God’s standards.
