Laurie KennedyThe Christian Servant Leader, leads, not for personal benefit, but for the growth and development of others. This role is foundational in ensuring Christ like service.

Christian Servant Leaders follow Christ’s example, “set you an example that you should do as I have done for you” (John 13:14-15 NIV). Paul confirms we are to use our Lord’s authority by “building you up rather than tearing you down.” (2 Corinthians 10:8 NIV) The author of Hebrews confirms we are to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24 NIV) Paul again suggests the leader has a responsibility to “encourage one another and build each other up…acknowledge those who work hard among you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11-12 NIV) Keep in mind we “do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always be gentle to everyone.” (Titus 3:1-2 NIV)

“According to Jesus Christ, great leaders are servant-leaders. They love their people enough to get down and dirty with them. They don’t lead from the tower; they get down in the trenches. They serve and empower their people. They use their influence and resources to knock down barriers, remove obstacles, and enable those serving under them. That’s servant-leadership.” (How to lead and still have a Life, Dale Burke)

Albert Einstein is quoted, “you cannot achieve a new goal by applying the same level of thinking that got you where you are today.” (James C. Hunter, The World’s most powerful Leadership Principle),

Effective Leaders realize that Servant Leadership is not autocratic. The effective leaders of today build on scriptural principles, follow Christ and build a team for the future.

Leadership is … coaching, serving and growing Leaders.

Yours in Service,
