Two and a half percent is the average giving rate for North American Christians. John and Paul confirm that setting the positive example is a foundational component of leadership. The blog today provides an opportunity to examine our personal example, then lead our people to change our world.
“I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:15 NIV)
“For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,” (2 Thessalonians 3:7 NIV)
“But mostly, show them all this by doing it yourself, incorruptible in your teaching, your words solid and sane. Then anyone who is dead set against us, when he finds nothing weird or misguided, might eventually come around.” (Titus 2:7-8 MSG)
These frightening statistics, from Mike Holmes in Relevant Magazine provide the stimulus for us to lead by example.
- Only 10-25% of the people in your congregation are tithing
Ok, so that is today’s reality. As leaders, we need to prayerfully set the example by following the scriptural principles of tithing and giving. As we set the example think about the amazing impact on our world. These are just a few examples of the results.
- An additional $165 billion would become available to God’s work
- $25 billion over the next five years would relieve hunger and death from preventable diseases
- $12 billion over five years would eliminate illiteracy
- $15 billion could solve the world’s water and sanitation concerns
- $1 billion could provide all funds necessary for overseas mission work
- $100 – $110 billion would be available to expand your local ministry
Effective Christian Leadership and organizational change can have a phenomenal impact on our Churches and Ministries. As leaders we need to set the example in prayer, truth and personal giving. As we grow, our people catch the Vision and follow.
Leadership is praying, searching our hearts and giving.
