The future of your mission is dependent on your ability to grow, mentor and encourage Leaders. Leaders set the example. They either expand, limit or shrink the ministry. They define and are responsible for the culture in your church. The habits, behaviors, beliefs and actions of your people are the culture. People watch leaders, follow leaders and learn from leaders. As the leaders lead, the followers follow and leaders make the difference.
I’ve met leaders who are sort of committed: they ‘sleepwalk’ (doing work today the way they have always done it). They like the status and position but are oblivious to current needs and future potential. The concept of excellence is beyond them. In other words, they play at leadership with no regard for living the Servant Leadership demonstrated by Christ.
“Therefore, since we (Leaders) are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1 NIV) The point is clear, leaders are surrounded by people who are watching and learning.
Do you have any idea how many people are watching and adopting your leadership? It’s more than you think. We don’t normally refer to poor leadership as sin. However, if your leaders are not living victorious lives and causing or allowing others to drift, then the neglect of God’s plan is sin.
Effective leaders are servants. They look to God and willingly confront their personal sin then demonstrate God’s love in everything they do.
Leadership is … being mentored and mentoring others for long term spiritual and organizational health.
